| Restaurant Terrace in Tokyo
This restaurant terrace is part of a series of roof gardens for a large development in Tokyo.
The patterns created by the sinuous bench are a continuation of a 'ribbon' that stretches across all of the roof gardens and links them together. The cushion hedging behind the bench provides a sense of protection on the terrace, and a mass planting of Miscanthus and Hemerocallis create a sea of movement large enough to compete with the architecture. Huge cones of mixed evergreen grasses punctuate the space and enclose the dining area.
To one side, a small woodland planting softens the building and creates a haven for inner city wildlife.
