This is a simple, modern and elegant garden inspired by the modernist movement in it's architecture and planting.
At one end of the garden is the pavilion kitchen with an integral greenhouse for growing salads and herbs. The deck is protected by a canopy and there is an outdoor grill to one side.
A curved path tempts visitors to wander through the garden and two elliptical terraces offer a chance to sit and relax surrounded by the planting.
The sinuous curves of the wall, the path and the terraces are an antidote to the pavilions' straight lines and the massed organic shapes of the planting serve to echo those curves and anchor the architecture.
For year round structure, the spreading branches of Rhus echo the horizontal lines of the pavilion and cushions of Eriobotrya enclose the terraces.
The planting is mainly textural greens, creams and browns provided by Dryopteris, Chondropetalum, Polygonatum and Aruncus. These are lifted with seasonal colour, beginning with the cooler tones of Erythronium, Muscari, Violets and Irises and becoming progressively warmer with Sedum, Euphorbia and Rhus.
